Course Description
In this presentation, we’ll dive into commonly overlooked mechanics of shoulder dysfunction in overhead pressing. Many clinicians treat impingement and bursitis as isolated conditions. This webinar challenges that view by tracing root causes, such as faulty ribcage positioning, limited shoulder flexion, poor scapular mechanics and compensatory movement patterns that ripple through the entire kinetic chain.
Backed by over 20 years of combined clinical and movement expertise, this session gives therapists a new lens to view stubborn shoulder pain - one that connects soft tissue dysfunction, rib positioning and neuromuscular control.
Attendees will walk away with an evidence-informed rehab plan that integrates manual therapy, breathing drills and functional strength exercises for long-lasting change, not just temporary relief. To keep it dynamic, we'll blend theory with real-time demonstrations using props. Volunteers from the audience/webinar will experience firsthand techniques such as the hook-lying dumbbell pullover, foam roller wall slides and hands-on assessment for latissimus dorsi and subscapularis restriction.
Through active participation, clinicians will gain an understanding of each intervention and be equipped to bring these methods back to their clients with confidence. This isn’t just a talk - it's a skill-building session designed to improve patient outcomes and refresh the way we approach overhead dysfunction.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this webinar, participants will:
- Identify the key movement limitations contributing to overhead pressing dysfunction
- Recognise how ribcage positioning, reduced shoulder flexion, impaired scapular mechanics, and compensatory movement patterns contribute to pain and dysfunction during overhead pressing.
- Assess overhead shoulder dysfunction using a wholechain clinical framework Participants will be able to apply a clinical assessment approach that links soft tissue restriction, scapulothoracic control, breathing mechanics, and kinetic chain compensation to common shoulder presentations such as impingement and bursitis.
- Implement an evidence-informed rehab strategy for overhead pressing limitations Participants will be able to select and apply practical interventions, including manual therapy, breathing drills, and functional strengthening exercises, to improve overhead movement quality and support longer-term patient outcomes.
